Media building of Riga Art and Media school, LV, 2016 - 2021

Awards:
Nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2022

Previously known as the Crafts Secondary School, together with the change of name and the realization of the new building, it provides a place for media education. The main functional space of the media building is a filming study studio (blackbox) with dimensions of 20m x 21m, 9m high. The hall's acoustics and sound insulation solutions will allow it to be used for various filming events and recordings. Next to the studio, there are study rooms, a photo studio, auxiliary rooms, changing rooms and make―up rooms on three floors. The lobby on the ground floor is wide open towards the new pedestrian street. The landscaped area with an amphitheater connects the new building with the existing buildings of the school and will form a place for students to gather. Monochrome aesthetics refer to the characteristic elements of the film industry, including the well―known clapperboard.
